The Cradle to Cradle Certified™ product standard steers designers and manufacturers through a continuous improvement process in which the product is assessed in five quality categories, i.e.; material health, material recycling, renewable energy and carbon management, water management and social justice. For each category, the product is given an individual performance assessment with the lowest performance level being considered the overall assessment of the product.
As a pathway to continual improvement Derako monitors product related carbon emissions. The emissions are calculated according to C2C principles and only production related emissions are included in the scope of the calculations (note: scopes can deviate from ESG reporting frameworks). Our emissions are subdivided in scope 1 (on-site emissions) and scope 2 (indirect emissions by utility use) and allocated according to estimates on production volumes. Electricity is purchased under green certificates which guarantees 100% renewable energy, as no further indirect (product related) emissions are present, scope 2 is set to zero. An analysis of scope 3 emissions can be found in the published LCA/EPD.
Grill system - Scope 1: 44,92 tCO2eq | Scope 2: 0 tCO2eq
Linear system (Inside) - Scope 1: 43,57 tCO2eq | Scope 2: 0 tCO2eq
Linear system (Outside) - Scope 1: 1,35 tCO2eq | Scope 2: 0 tCO2eq
The Product evaluations are carried out by qualified, independent organisations. The evaluations are then viewed by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation institute, which issues the Cradle to Cradle Certified ™ licences. For recertification, the manufacturer must show every two years the efforts he has made to improve the product.
