The recently completed council offices in Venlo were designed according to the principles of the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) philosophy, in which there is a positive influence on human health and the environment. The new council offices contain office space, a plaza, a public hall with an exhibition area and several meeting rooms. Several areas were provided with the C2C certified Derako durable Accoya wood grill ceiling system.
The Derako ceiling and wall systems are available in a large variety of durable woods and also in bamboo. With the three variants of the linear system and several grill versions, there is always a form of implementation that provides the desired appearance in a new project or renovation project. All Derako systems are Cradle to Cradle® certified and contribute to obtaining BREEAM and LEED credits.
During the last year the security areas at Schiphol have been totally renewed. For the decoration of walls and ceilings the Derako grill system was frequently used.
Safety, travel and home comfort were the most important factors for the Schiphol refurbishment. To increase the comfort of the people who are passing through, extra attention was paid to the 'perception' factor, which is important in areas where an uncomfortable atmosphere can often dominate because of the controls. By using Derako's solid wood system an entirely natural, warm and 'calming' look was created in these areas. A look that gives the experience, in an operation such as a "security check", a whole new dimension.
Recently the new Wibaut House on the Amstel Campus, commissioned by the University of Amsterdam, was realised. In this very spacious and warmly designed building solid wooden Derako ceiling and wall systems were used. The systems were the linear system versions with FSC® certified Ash.
The building was designed by KPF Architects and Studio V, who deliberately chose a modern and matt look for the ceiling and walls. In order to achieve this, the ash Derako system slats were delivered with a finely sawn finish and provided with grey acoustic non-woven fabric. This has given the entrance hall, the restaurant, the floors and the two auditoriums a calming, warm and natural look.
The new building at the ´De Heuvelrand´swimming pool in Voorthuizen was designed by Slangen + Koenis Architecten and fitted with a Derako solid wood ceiling system. For this project, the architect chose the linear multi-panel system whereby wooden slats of pine in five different widths are combined into a dynamic pattern.
Both the carriers and the wooden slats are specially treated by Derako for pool applications, creating a highly resistant and durable system.. The wooden ceiling gives the building a natural warm look and allows for a direct visual connection to the natural environment which is visible through the large windows.
