Derako's Cradle to Cradle certified ceiling system offers great freedom to the designer. The ceiling is manufactured from highly sustainable materials and the solid wood used can be supplied with an FSC® or PEFC certificate. There are various versions available, such as the open and closed linear system, the multi panel linear system and the ceiling grill system. With any version of the Derako system you can provide any space with a unique, natural and contemporary look. In addition most versions are also suitable to be used for outside ceilings.
Cradle to Cradle principle
During the engineering and construction of the ceiling systems, in accordance with the Cradle to Cradle®-principle, not only our present needs are looked at but also the future possibilities for recycling. Within the five quality categories the manufacturer is constantly working on improvements. These improvements are in the field of material recycling, material health, renewable energy and carbon management, water management and social justice. For each category the Derako ceiling system has received an individual performance assessment from Cradle to Cradle.
At Derako sustainability is in our genes
As a sustainable operating organisation Derako wants to be sure that all their products, including the ceiling systems, have a lasting positive influence on people's health and on the environment. Because of the ever more limited resources, Derako also realises that the linear economy of "buying, using and throwing away" is no longer tenable. It is necessary to operate more as a circular economy, where goods and materials can be reused and recycled. Using solid wood (with its favourable material properties) obviously suits this philosophy!
Many implementations
The Derako solid wood ceiling system consists of slats which, in a pre-defined pattern, are mounted onto a purposely developed metal support system of rails and clips that cannot be seen. The suspended ceiling system can be applied as a linear version to hide the sight of the underlying (concrete) ceiling. But the structure can, in the case of the grill system for example, also be open to create a contemporary look. The solid wood ceiling system contributes in both cases, each one with its own characteristics, to obtaining better acoustics in the space below. Also, Derako's wooden ceilings comply with the European fire protection requirements with regard to the use of wood as a coating material.
Curved or arched ceiling
The Derako Cradle to Cradle certified ceilings are ideal for curved or arched shapes. The architect’s creativity is all important. For these curved ceiling versions the rails are fixed and shaped to the desired radius. They can be suspended with quick hangers or nonius hangers. Just like for a level wooden ceiling, the carrier system is supplied totally prefabricated.
Choice of many types of timber or bamboo
The ceiling system can be supplied in a large diversity of high quality types of timber, such as ayous (abachi), pine, ash, bamboo or oak. The slats of the Cradle to Cradle ceiling system can be finished with a layer of clear varnish or with a varnish layer in a specific colour. In addition to the ceiling system, Derako also supplies a Cradle to Cradle certified wall system.
